I just finished the book Mary Poser: Butterflies and White Lies as Bollywood Comes to Nashville. In this book, dutiful pastor's daughter Mary meets Bollywood producer, Simha Das at the Nashville Film Festival and the many different events that follow send Mary on a roller coaster of emotions. When her ex finds out about Simha he appears back in Mary's life wanting to make amends. Her critical mother has to have opinions about everything in her family's life. Her brother, sister and father are all restless with their lives that have been lived in the same city. Her best friend from childhood is devious and manipulative. Plus, there are lots of other characters with their own set of problems.
What will the result be? Will Mary completely change or will she stay in the life that she has always known?
I would tell you to read it to find out, but don't, seriously don't.
This was by far the worst book I have read in a while. The events in Mary's life are described in great detail. Excruciating detail. This book was also riddled with stereotypes and incorrect descriptions of scenes, events and the city. In fact at some point I stopped trying to keep track of everything that was "off" about the story.
Oddly enough this book is written by the author Angel A. I am unclear if this is a real person because an internet search revealed nothing. Maybe the computers are writing books for us now. Either way, it seemed apparent that Angel A. does not call Nashville home or understand its culture. This did not make me feel safe as a reader. I couldn't trust the author and that did not make me like this book.
All I can say is please spare yourself the trouble of reading this one. Particularly, if you live and love the city of Nashville. It seems that it will be made into a movie so check that out instead if you are still curious.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This is my honest opinion.
