An Update

So the other day, I shared some interesting facts about myself in my Sunshine Awards post. I hope you learned something or at least smiled.Sorry that I've been so quiet over here lately. I've only posted a few times in the past while and I thought I would share some of what's been going on in my life.

Back in February I got to feeling really unwell. The pain got really bad one night and I ended up in the emergency room. Long story short the end result was that I had to have some "minor" surgery. As some people say, "Minor surgery is only done on someone else." I realize that for the doctor it wasn't a big deal, but for me it was huge.

Pop Rocks is amazing at taking care of me. When I had to go the ER, I woke him up in the middle of the night and he never once complained. I wasn't even planning on waking him up, but somehow my body did without my brain's consent. He was ready to go right then. I called the nurse line from my insurance (which I love BTW) and after her series of questions the nurse on the line recommended that I get help within the next three hours. Oh, and that I not drive myself. That was more than enough to get me in the car (though I insisted that Mary go out first).

My parents came to town and helped to get me on the road to recovery and I missed a week at work. It was interesting to be home from work for a whole week. Typically if I'm off that long, we are on vacation (like this time last year) or its a major holiday. It was pretty restful, but t.v. gets pretty boring after a few days. There was a local murder trial on all week, so I ended up watching a lot of that coverage. It was really interesting, but so so sad.

Since then, I've been adjusting back to real life (and life post operation) and working on lots of little projects. I should show you some pictures. I only have after pictures, but that should be okay.

Oh, one of my dearest friends came to visit a couple weekends back and spent one night with me before her family got to town. I've also had some really long and wonderful conversations with my other bestie's and its been so great. Those girls make my life so much more beautiful and rich!

Merry Mary Monday: 4.29.13

Mary loves her Daddy. Whenever she can she finds a way to cuddle up with him.

But if he's not around and mama is no where to be found, she'll make her own nest.

Happy Monday, Friends. I hope these pictures help to make it even more cheerful!

Its funny...

I tend to have my best thoughts for things I want to blog about when I am doing something else. Usually that something else requires my full attention or isn't condusive to a computer being present. Usually its driving, drifting off to sleep or getting clean. I want to write about things that matter and things that people want to read. So, what do you want to read?

I'm serious. Are there topics that I cover of which you would like to more? Are there things on here that you hate? Let me know in the comments. I want this place to not only make me happy, but to make you happy!

I've been trying to read some books to review, and I found one that is so horrible. It most likely does not relate to my readers and it is so poorly written there isn't any way that I could recommend it. I'm working on another one that is a wonderful story, so thats coming down the pipe. Anything else?

Sunshine Awards

The wonderful and gracious Brenda Wilkerson at Don't Stop Believing nominated me for a Sunshine Award!

Rules for the Sunshine Award:

If you are nominated you must include the link in a blog, linking to the person/blog that nominated you. You must answer some questions, nominate 10 fellow bloggers, and link to their blogs in your post. Let the people you have nominated know that you have nominated them!

1. Who is your favorite philosopher? Hmm... I don't remember having a favorite one when I took philosophy. I think I get most of my philosophical thoughts from friends and family. I also tend to overthink through everything. Then there's always grumpy cat...

2. What is your favorite number? 22 - its the birthday day. :)

3. What is your favorite animal?

Otters. I can sit and watch them play all day long. If I could be any animal t'would be an otter.

4. What are your Facebook and Twitter URLs? You can find me on Facebook and Twitter!

5. What is your favorite time of day? Nighttime... I'm such a night owl. I love Fridays simply because I can stay up as late as I want to, unless I have something planned for Saturday mornings.

6. What was your favorite vacation? Probably my honeymoon. But its followed by the trip I took in college to Anaheim. It was also wonderful. (Then theres the hilarious wedding roadtrip to Indiana, but I'm pretty sure you had to be there.)

So, I feel like I should give the story on the last two photos. As a general rule, I don't like characters in costume, but at Disneyland I felt that they were professionals and made it my goal for the day to have a picture with one character. I didn't really care who. As many people know, there is always a long line for pictures. Well, I saw Woody and decided he was the one so we stood in line, and then when we got to the front it was, "Time for Woody to go back in the toy box." So we snapped the first picture. Well Woody saw that we I really wanted a photo with him and all of the sudden I felt this huge hand on my shoulder. Then we got the second picture. Now, Woody is one of my favorite Disney characters.

Also notice the photo bombers in the second picture.

7. What is your favorite physical activity?

Avoiding it... Um I love to go for a long walk. Preferably alone or with one other person and of course, Mary.

8. What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink?

Dr. Pepper. I have an addiction and I really need to break up with the Dr.

9. What is your favorite flower? I love daisies. They just make me so happy. I also love ranunculus.

10. What is your passion? Adoption. I would love to adopt one day, but I think everybody should. If you want to see me cry, show me pictures of families coming home with their newly adopted children. To me, its the most beautiful act in the world.

Boston

I feel the need to say something, but have no words with which to say anything. Just know that I am thinking of Boston. Of the grieving, injured and scared.
