Merry Mary Monday - 4.30.12

So the other day I was getting ready for work and hadn't been in our bedroom for awhile. I came back and found this in our bed:

Nobody's spoiled here. (Yes, her head is on a pillow and a blanket is over her body. No, I did not stage this.)

She's just so cute, I couldn't help but grab my camera.

And then there was this:

Just look at those sweet feet, poking out under the blanket!

Lately

Just wanted to give you a quick update on things I've been up to....

Watching

I can't get enough of "Once Upon A Time." I started watching it on Hulu mid-season. Well I've caught up and can't wait for a new episode. Other shows I've been watching are: Glee, SMASH, The Office, Grey's Anatomy and Parenthood.

Reading

I haven't picked up a book in awhile, but I have been reading the Diamond Gothic book from Bethany Joy Lenz, Abigail Spencer, and JC Coccoli. You can read it on HelloGiggles.com. I recommend starting with Chapter 1.

Playing

Often before I fall asleep I play games on my phone. Lately I've been playing Triple Town (by SpryFox), Scramble (by Zynga), Draw Something Free (by OMGpop) and the Sims Free Play (by EA). All are available in the Play Store and I have the free versions. I don't pay for phone games.

Doing

I've been working on a quilt with Josh's grandmother. I have had a hard time having time to work on it, but I have started to sew after all of the cutting.

Swagging - but seriously I've been earning lots of Swagbucks and you can too*!

What have you been up to?

Summer Lovin'

So I am starting to get into a summer state of mind. It has more to do with the longer days than it does with the weather.

After the hottest March on record, we are back to almost freezing nights and cool days. I'm not going to complain, I actually don't particularly love hot weather.

Anyway.... I am trying to come up with a fun summer time playlist. I am putting it onto my Spotify so that I can listen at work or at home and get into a better mood. Some of the songs I have are:

No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley and the Wailers
Put Your Records On - Corrine Bailey Rae
[Sittin' On] The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
I'm Into Something Good - Herman's Hermits
Why Georgia - John Mayer
Summer Nights - John Travolta & Olivia Newton John (Grease Soundtrack)
Wouldn't It Be Nice - The Beach Boys
Bubbly - Colbie Caillat
Irresistible - Jessica Simpson
Summer Nights - Rascal Flatts
Amelia's Missing - Jon McLaughlin
Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
(These are not affiliated links)

What song(s) get you in a summer state of mind?  I need some more to add to my playlist.

P.S. Did you know you can follow me on Facebook?

Merry Mary Monday: 4.23.12

Happy Monday, Everybody.

No, I haven't forgotten about Merry Mary Mondays! I've been really busy and haven't done a good job about getting pictures posted. But a little while ago I had a great photoshoot with Miss Mary. The lighting was good and her mood was right so I got some good pictures.

If you look closely above you can see that someone needs their nails trimmed... untrimmed nails equal a scratched face.

Mary has the sweetest face, unless she is making a nasty face.... just saying.

Here she is with her looking-off-into-the-distance-acting-all-non-chalant-model-face.

After this things got a little interesting. Since things were going so well, I got real close with my camera phone. I had the perfect picture lined up in the screen and once I hit the button this came out:

So I offered a hug and a picture with me as condolence and this happened:

Apparently that was not a good enough prize and our photo session was obviously over. I tried one more time:

Transformation

I got my haircut for the first time in three years, Tuesday. Three. Years. Three years, y'all

It was very long...

Anyway I got it chopped off. I love it. SO. MUCH! I don't think I'm gonna let it grown out that long again. Ever.

So do you want to see what it looks like? Do you?

OK! Here it is...

Have you done anything dramatic lately?

Merry Mary Monday: 4.9.12

This party is brought to you via Instagram for Android.

This is Mary in her bed. We affectionately call it her "Baked Potato and Chives." This happened because when she get curled up under there with the green blanket on her, its looks just like a side dish.

Mary likes to snuggle in my quilt. Here she is on the couch Saturday night.

This happened last night. Mary had a tiring day of napping, then going to her Mimi and Pa's house where she got to see lots of family. Plus there was an egg hunt that was so much fun.

When we got home Mary was so tuckered out that she pretty much just laid on the couch snuggled with Pop Rocks with her legs stuck out of the blanket.

A Word for Wednesday: Gritty

I was driving down the interstate the other and Miranda Lambert's newest single came on the radio. I wasn't paying much attention, its a song I already know and love. Then the chorus came. The words are gritty, like a lot of Ms. Lambert's songs.

But you went away.
How dare you?
I miss you.
They say I'll be okay.
But I'm not ever going to get over you.

This perfectly sums up the feelings I've had over the loss of my grandmother. There is such a void in my life that was left with her passing and it hit me in that moment. I started to cry. I was trying so hard to pull myself together and I finally did. I was headed to dinner with some friends and had I known that I was going to be an hour early I would have just let myself cry.

Later that night I was talking with one of my dearest friends and we began to reminisce about a trip we had taken. It was one of those trips where everything that could go wrong or be weird was and its hilarious, at least to us. As we talked we began to laugh. And we laughed until we weren't making noise any longer. I had tears coming out of my eyes, of a very different kind.

That night as I washed my face and rid myself of the traces of both sets of tears I realized that life is such a wonderful experience. I could cry and laugh in the matter of hours. Life is gritty and we don't acknowledge it. There is pain, there is laughter. There is heartache, there is new life. There is sadness, there is uncontrollable laughter.

I think this is why I love Natalie Grant's song "Held." I listened to it with new ears yesterday and these words stuck out to me:

To think that providence
Would take a child from his mother
While she prays, is appalling.

There is so much gritty honesty in those lyrics. It is appalling. The song goes on to say.

The promise was when everything fell
We'd be held.

That is the promise. That is the hope, we are held by a Savior. A Savior who has walked a gritty and harder road than we do. A Savior who gave is life for us on a cross, after he was betrayed and beaten and mocked. Jesus knows exactly how gritty our lives are, how difficult it can be. He understands when we cry out "Why, God?" and understands our pitiful moans of "Why me?"

I've been dealing with a lot in my life lately. And I've been dealing with it very privately. So much so no one knows all that I've had on my mind, except my Savior. I've created silence in my life where I can, because that it what I can control. If you've asked my how I'm doing I probably told you great or fine or wonderful. That's mostly true. When I've been around others and not in my own head I have felt that way. Very few people in our lives understand the tone in which we say such words.

This Easter, please know that God is on his throne and he loves you. He sent his Son to save you from your sins by dying on a cross. You will be loved by Him more than you can imagine.
