Why I'm planning a vacation 13 years in advance....

The 13 year cicadas have made their long impending appearance at our house. They FREAK me out! I took Mary out last night and about had a panic attack. I’ve never been a fan of any insects and an infestation is getting close to pushing me over the edge.

When I got inside and told Pop Rocks about it I explained that cicadas are freaking looking and remind me of crawfish (only they have wings and fly and are crawling around my yard). I kinda feel like anything that incubates in the ground for 13 years only to make an appearance for 4 weeks should be in the Nature Freaks category.

Pop Rocks asked me if they didn’t remind me of Palmetto Bugs. (For those that don’t know the infamous palmetto bugs are my nemesis. I will have to write about it soon.) Since he brought it up, they suddenly reminded me of those awful creatures and now I am nervous even indoors.

Anyway, I decided that we needed to start saving our money now so that in 13 years we can go on vacation. a. long. vacation. A month should do it. If its well planned I might be able to keep my sanity in 2024.

As for 2011, I. might. not. make. it.

If I don’t, please don’t bury me with the cicadas.

  1. Thankfully, they haven't arrived at my house yet. I've got my badminton racket ready though!

How to Complain

After yesterday's post, I though I should provide something a little more helpful to my readers. Here are some tips I've developed from answering customer service calls and emails from time to time. You may have some other extremely helpful tips, feel free to leave them in the comments so we can all benefit!
Be Specific. This is definitely my number one tip. If you aren't specific it means that the person on the other end doesn't know details that can be used to rectify the situation. Also, the more details you provide the more credibility you lend to the situation. If it is a reoccurring incident call each time it happens. From a customer service standpoint, we would rather rectify the situation now than find about it in two days when it has happened two more times.Don't Rant, Yell, or Scream. Tell someone you would like to complain and then do it with a cool head. This may mean that you need to write an email complaint versus getting on the phone. Keep in mind th…

Mary Poser by Angel A.

I just finished the book Mary Poser: Butterflies and White Lies as Bollywood Comes to Nashville. In this book, dutiful pastor's daughter Mary meets Bollywood producer, Simha Das at the Nashville Film Festival and the many different events that follow send Mary on a roller coaster of emotions. When her ex finds out about Simha he appears back in Mary's life wanting to make amends. Her critical mother has to have opinions about everything in her family's life. Her brother, sister and father are all restless with their lives that have been lived in the same city. Her best friend from childhood is devious and manipulative. Plus, there are lots of other characters with their own set of problems.

What will the result be? Will Mary completely change or will she stay in the life that she has always known?

I would tell you to read it to find out, but don't, seriously don't.

This was by far the worst book I have read in a while. The events in Mary's life are described in …

Rugosa: A Survival Story from Omaha to London by Creek Stewart

Creek Stewart of "Fat Guys in the Woods" fame released his first novel, Rugosa: A Survival Story from Omaha to London, on February 14. I just finished it and I was very impressed.

Omaha is a boy scout and since the loss of his father the entire world has been turned upside down. Now he finds that one of the people nearest to him in life, London, is in trouble and he has to risk everything to save her.

Will be able to make it to her in time? Will she even be alive when he gets there? What kind of danger will he face on the way there?

Find out the answers by reading the book. (What'd you think I was going to say?)

I really did enjoy this book. It was a gripping story and only took me three sittings to get it finished. A lot of the plot hits closer to home than I would like. An added bonus was some of the survival skills that I picked up along the way.

I could really relate to Omaha as a character. He is a quiet person that prefers the outdoors to being around people. While b…
